Stage 5 Design and Technology

The stage 5 Design and Technology course encompasses a broad range of experiences through the development and implementation of various design projects within a range of contexts.  These design projects provide the students with a wealth of knowledge on the Design Process and skill development through the construction of various projects, including competence in computing software and use of jewellery making tools, sewing machines and cooking equipment.

Successful completion of these tasks result in the students developing the opportunity to identify problems and opportunities, research and investigate existing solutions, analyse data and information, generate, justify and evaluate ideas, and experiment with technologies to manage and produce design projects.

At Castle Hill High School, the 200 hour Design and Technology course comprises of 5 units of work addressing the following focus areas of design;

Year 9

  • Focus area - Jewellery
  • Project - An item of jewellery

Year 9

  • Focus area - Fashion
  • Project - Sportswear item (clothing or accessory)

Year 9

  • Focus area - Food
  • Project - French café business design

Year 10 

  • Focus area - Furniture/packaging
  • Project - Storage solution

Year 10

  • Focus area - Accessory
  • Project - Product to accessorise a fashion outfit for a particular occasion.
