Telstra through Aurecon, notified the school late May 2014 that they will upgrade their tower facing our school in June this year.
This is a complete surprise as no mention was made by Telstra executives when they flew in from Melbourne to visit the school in February 2014. This visit was to undertake post installation EMR readings at the school and further discussions.
It has been less than 12 months since Telstra's first consultation with the community at the Castle Hill Scout Hall about a proposed tower on the Castle Hill RSL. We now have a completely different set of specifications installed and increased output range.
It is difficult to accept Telstra were not aware of all these latest changes at the time of the first consultation with the public and at the numerous meetings held between Telstra and the school since. The school is continuing to petition the NSW Legislative Assembly : "to oppose the installation of a Telstra Base Station at the Castle Hill RSL or any place within 500m of any school in accordance with the policy of the NSW Department of Education and Communities". We have several thousand signatories but need 10 000 signatures for this bill to be debated by our parliament.
