Stage 5 Textiles Technology

The stage 5 Textiles Technology course encompasses a broad range of experiences through the development and implementation of various design projects within a range of focus areas. Students develop knowledge of the properties, performance and uses of textiles in which fabrics, colouration, yarns and fibres are explored.

A minimum of 4 units of work covering 4 focus areas are minimal requirements of stage 5 Textiles Technology. Project Work that includes investigation and experimentation will enable students to discriminate in their choices of textiles for particular uses.  Students are required to document and communicate their design ideas and develop confidence in the manipulation and use of a range of textile materials, equipment and techniques.

At Castle Hill High School, the 200 hour Textiles Technology course comprises of 4 units of work addressing the following focus areas of design;

Year 9

Focus area - Furnishings

Project:

  • Wall hanging

  • quilting
  • patchwork

Year 9

Focus area - Textile Arts

Project - Children felt textile art book

Year 10

Focus area - Apparel

Project - Pyjamas and slippers

Year 10

Focus area - Costume

Project - Theatrical costume and or corset
